University of Tennessee College of Medicine - Chattanooga
Established in 1974, The University of Tennessee College of Medicine - Chattanooga Unit is part of a statewide network of medical education to provide quality medical education to medical students, residents, and practicing physicians in Southeast Tennessee. The Chattanooga Unit provides excellent, accredited medical education offering a unique blend of quality lifestyle with the required educational components and state-of-the-art clinical facilities. The mission of the Chattanooga Unit includes: medical education for medical students, residents and practicing physicians; research; patient care; and public service. The primary clinical training site is the Erlanger Health System, one of the Southeast's premier teaching hospitals and a recognized leader in healthcare and technology.
Global Institution has worked closely with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine - Chattanooga Unit for medical exchange between the USA and China. These exchange programs include Continuing Medical Education (CME) travel programs for physicians, resident and student exchanges, medical research and distance learning programs for physicians at both countries. An upcoming CME trip to China will be offered in May 2005 for physicians to learn about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and integration of TCM with Western Medicine.
Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC, formerly Beijing Medical
University):
Peking University Health Science Center is the leading medical institution in
China. PUHSC is composed of 7 Colleges and 6 university hospitals. Currently,
PUHSC has an enrollment of over 5,000 students in medicine, biomedical sciences,
dentistry, preventive medicine, pharmaceutics, nursing and mental health. Their
hospitals have over 4,000 patient beds receiving over 100,000 inpatients and
4.5 million outpatients each year. PUHSC is also the largest medical research
institution in China. With 46 research institutes and centers under its flag,
PUHSC has always been the leader in receiving research grants from the National
Natural Science Foundation, and in science publications among medical institutions.
Global Institution has developed several teaching plans with PUHSC, and will
represent Peking University Health Science Center
in the US for international cooperation and promotion.
China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM)
CATCM is a national institute for research, clinical medicine and medical training
and education in traditional Chinese medicine. CATCM has 11 institutes, 5 hospitals,
and the postgraduate education department offering master and doctoral programs.
The educational program of CATCM is recognized both by the Ministry of Education
in China and Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(ACAOM) in the US. It also serves as WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional
Medicine.
CATCM and Global Institution have jointly offered various Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) training programs for western physicians, chiropractors and other
medical professionals. These programs have got support from commitments from
several organizations at CATCM, including World Federation of Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), Acupuncture Institute of CATCM, and China Beijing
International Training Center.
World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society (WFAS);
WFAS was established in 1987 in Beijing China and its formal non-governmental
relations with WHO was set up in 1998. With the objectives of promoting understanding
and cooperation among acupuncture groups throughout the world and the responsibilities
of organizing international conferences and developing acupuncture education
and training, WFAS assisted WHO in making “Standard International Acupuncture
Nomenclature”, “Guidelines on Acupuncture Clinical Research’. To enhance the
academic level of acupuncture science and to quicken the legalization of acupuncture
in the countries all over the world are the emphasized work of WFAS in future.
Acupuncture Institute of China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Set up
in 1951 and five times designated as WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional
Medicine respectively in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1995 and 1999, the Acupuncture Institute
of China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the top unit that carries
out the synthesized researches on basic theories of acupuncture and clinical
treatment and the teaching for both Chinese and foreign doctors. Its five actions
recognized by WHO as follows:
- To carry out experimental and clinical researches to validate the safety
and efficacy of acupuncture, particularly in stopping drug addiction, cardiovascular
diseases, digestive diseases and pain syndromes.
- To study the principles of acupuncture analgesia and methods for improving
analgesic effect.
- To study the essence of meridians and the relations between meridians
and zangfu organs.
- To make the standard of clinical indications of acupoints, to protect
Acu-moxibustion Relics, and to construct Acu-moxibustion Diagram Database.
- To perfect the methods for training of acupuncture, and to provide opportunities
for foreign doctors.
As to the theoretical and clinical research, the Acupuncture Institute has
decades of experimental labs and clinics of various departments.
China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center
The China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center, established in
1975, has the first-class teachers and translators experienced in teaching.
Within the nearly 30 years after its establishments, it has been doing a remarkable
job of “perfecting the methods of training of acupuncture and providing opportunities
for foreign doctors” given by WHO Collaborating Center of Traditional Medicine,
and has trained thousands of acupuncture professionals for more than one hundred
countries and regions.
Combined the theory teaching with clinical practice, China Beijing International
Acupuncture Training Center teaches acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, cosmetology,
Taiji, and Qigong, etc. The electro-instruments used in teaching give chance
to the students to see and listen at the same time for better understanding.
