This is a very advanced acupuncture program for people who have mastered acupuncture basics. Upon completion, participants will be able to acquire a complete understanding of basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a systematic knowledge of meridians and collaterals and a perfect mastery of 250 acupoints, including the locations, indication to the differentiation, methods of treatment and prescriptions of about 40 common diseases. The curriculum arrangements allow participants to spend mornings on clinic practice and afternoons on lectures. In this way, participants can apply acquired knowledge and skills into practice quickly, and maximize both theoretical knowledge and acupuncture skills. Program will taught in English at China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM) with its acupuncture training center and teaching hospitals, who also servers as WHO Collaborating Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.

Curriculum Arrangements:
(a) Based on original TCM knowledge acquired in the introductory course, the
emphasis is placed upon the following contents:
- Yin-yang and Five Elements: supplement of the origins and development
of the theory of Ying-yang and Five Elements, with emphasis on the clinical
application of the theory.
- Zang Fu: principal introduction to the relations between Zang and Fu
as well as the relations among qi, blood and body fluid.
- tiology: principal introduction to the characteristics of disease caused
by six exogenous pathogenic factors, seven emotional factors, phlegm and
blood stasis.
- Four Diagnostic Methods: principal introduction to the clinical significance
of the tongue and pulse diagnosis.
- Differentiation: introduction to the differentiation of complicated
syndromes of Zang-fu organs, differentiation of syndromes according to
the theory of Qi and Blood; Wei, Qi, Ying, Xue; and Six Meridians and
Sanjiao.
(b) Techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion: Introduction to the needling
techniques in ancient times, and comprehensive reinforcing and reducing methods.
(c) Meridians, Collaterals and Acupoints: Description of the main contents
of the system of meridians and collaterals, including the Eight Extra Meridians,
Collaterals, Divergent Meridians and Muscle regions, 361 acupoints in the
14 meridians and commonly used extra points.
(d) The general introduction to acupuncture treatment: supplement of principles
and methods of treatment, prescription. Main introduction to the clinical
combination and application of the specific points.
(e) Treatment of diseases: supplement of commonly encountered disease in clinic.

- The 1st stage: 5 weeks
- To learn comprehensively the inter-relations among Yin Yang, Five Elements,
Zang Fu, Qi and Blood.
- To study systematically the theory of meridians and collaterals, have
a further mastery of 250 acupoints, and acupuncture techniques.
- The 2nd stage: 3 weeks
- To be familiar with the basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine,
including the etiology and four diagnostic methods.
- To master preliminarily the methods of making differentiation of syndromes.
- The 3rd stage: 4 weeks
- To be familiar with the principles and methods of treatment and basic
principles of point selections.
- To have a quite skillful mastery of commonly used points and acupuncture
techniques.
- To master basically the treatment for about 40 kinds of frequently
encountered disease in clinic based on differentiation of syndromes.
- To study extensively the science of acupuncture through special topics.

Holders from 3-month basic acupuncture course; doctors with acupuncture license; college students with two years of training in acupuncture or acupuncturists with a similar educational level.
