This is a very thorough and comprehensive beginner acupuncture program for western medical professionals. Upon completion, the participants will be able to acquire a brief understanding of fundamentals of acupuncture and moxibustion, and basic technique about 120 commonly-used points as well as treatment of about 25 kinds of common diseases by acupuncture and moxibustion. The curriculum arrangements allow participants to spend mornings on clinic practice and afternoons on lectures. In this way, participants can apply acquired knowledge and skills into practice quickly, and maximize both theoretical knowledge and acupuncture skills. Program will taught in English at China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM) with its acupuncture training center and teaching hospitals, who also servers as WHO Collaborating Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.

Curriculum Arrangements:

Class Date: Apri 15 – July 15 and August 15 - November 15 every year
Schedules:
- Stage one: 4 weeks
The participates are required to understand the development of Chinese acupuncture
and moxibustion, the basic theories of TCM in relation to acupuncture and
moxibustion (including basic concepts, clinical significance of Yin-Yang,
five elements), zang-fu physiology (including qi, blood, body fluid), and
channels and collaterals as well as the running courses and pathological symptoms
and signs of 14 channels, to have an intimate knowledge and to master about
120 commonly-used points, and preliminarily know the basic manipulation techniques
of acupuncture and moxibustion.
- Stage two: 6 weeks
The participants are required to have an intimate knowledge of etiology, four
diagnostic methods, differentiation of syndromes according to the eight principles,
zang-fu, channels and collaterals, principles of selecting points, methods
to combine points, and application of specific points. The participants are
required to further perfect the locations of the commonly-used points and
the manipulation techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion, and to master
acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of 25 kinds of common diseases.
- Stage three: 2 weeks
The participants are required, through clinical practice, to apply acupuncture
and moxibustion independently in the treatment of common disease. In this
period, auricular acupuncture and electric acupuncture will be briefly introduced.
At the same period, general review and examination will be arranged.

Physicians, chiropractors, other medical workers with higher degrees and clinical experience, scientific and technical workers who engaged in medical research.
Certification Program will be taught in English at China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM) with its acupuncture training cener and teaching hospitals. CATCM is one of top TCM universities in China. Its educational program is recognized both by the Ministry of Education in China and Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) in the US. CATCM also serves as WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine. After participants fulfill all course requirements and pass the final exam, a certificate which is recognized by World Health Organization (WHO) and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, PR China will be issued.
Teaching Methods
Lectures in classroom, coaching in small groups, and clinical practice under instruction of experienced TCM doctors. Lecture on special
topics and visits to hospitals will be undertaken so as to consolidate the
acquired knowledge and technique.
